Senior Steel Strategist

ABOUT YOU

You are a proven experienced strategist that understands power, and how to build and deploy it to create real-world impacts. Rather than taking a cookie-cutter approach to campaigning, you analyse your particular industry, its growth strategies, regulatory environment and leading  stakeholders, creating a tailored intervention that leverages key players' self-interest and vulnerabilities.

You understand business strategy and how it relates to energy procurement and decarbonisation. You are relentless and have the confidence to influence powerful stakeholders.

WHY "GREEN STEEL"?

Green steel is the manufacturing of steel without the use of fossil fuels.

The steel sector is a major driver of climate change, with estimates that it contributes 11% of global CO2 emissions. Given projected steel demand, if business as usual continues then it is estimated that steel would contribute 2.8-3.6 Gt of emissions by 2050. Such a trajectory would fail the Paris Agreement climate objective of limiting global warming to well below 2°C and ideally to 1.5°C.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Required

  • Exceptional analytical skills, with demonstrated experience in power mapping.
  • The proven ability to independently develop theories of change and test them in application.
  • Demonstrated understanding of corporate power and influence building tactics in Korea, or the ability to develop this.
  • Experience writing campaign strategies and breaking them down into work plans for a team.
  • Proven high-level stakeholder organizing skills.
  • High-level communication skills, including the ability to decode corporate marketing, develop campaign branding and messaging, collaborate with creative teams, and build relationships with journalists.
  • A demonstrated understanding of industrial decarbonization, the barriers and opportunities, and the role of government in enabling or impeding energy transition.
  • The ability to nurture collaborative, cross-functional teams.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, Korean is desirable.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Opportunity to have a major impact as a part of a senior team of like-minded and ambitious strategists who will challenge and support you to deliver climate outcomes.
  • A dynamic, progressive, and family-oriented work environment.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work.
