UPDATE July 7, 2022: We won!

  • This week Hyundai scrapped plans to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in South Korea, explaining that “We decided to cancel the LNG plant construction plan, one of the various measures we internally reviewed to meet the global consensus for climate change.”
  • Hyundai has now committed to accelerating installation of solar panels at its factories and said any new plants will be 100% compatible with renewable energy starting from the design stage. This is a huge win, and one you helped secure by sending 8,740 emails to Hyundai staff to hold the company accountable.

This year, Hyundai Motor and three affiliates vowed to source their electricity with 100% renewable energy by 2045 [1]. Just two weeks later, they declared plans to construct a new LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) power plant to cover the majority of electricity use at their largest production plant in Korea [2].

LNG is a fossil fuel that is neither renewable nor climate-safe. So why are Hyundai Motors and its affiliates going back on their climate vows?

It’s time to hold industry giants like Hyundai accountable for their promises. Tell them to halt plans to construct their LNG power plant and follow through on their words.

Email Hyundai decision-makers today – it takes less than a minute.
