Update September 20, 2022: We moved a giant!
It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to you, Samsung has committed to using 100% renewable energy.
With the thousands of you that wrote to Samsung, and alongside our amazing partners who helped us to do things like grabbing global headlines at last year’s global climate meeting in Glasgow, we can moved this giant global corporation that will resonate within the Korean government and across boardrooms worldwide.
The commitment has loopholes like a distant 2050 target and no mention of solar, wind and related battery storage plans which leaves it lagging far behind peers such as Apple and Microsoft.
We will continue to campaign on Samsung Electronics as its greenhouse gas emissions amount to approximately 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, roughly equivalent to Norway’s total emissions, and its emissions have been rising.
There’ll be more to come on Samsung so that we keep up the momentum on the global tech sector’s oversized climate impact.
